The Coscoroba swan (Coscoroba coscoroba) is a small, distinctive swan native to southern South America and is currently classified as Least Concern in the wild, with a generally stable population. It inhabits freshwater wetlands, including shallow lakes, lagoons, marshes, and slow-moving rivers, and may also use coastal estuaries outside the breeding season. Coscoroba swans are mainly herbivorous, feeding on aquatic plants, grasses, seeds, and algae, but they also consume small invertebrates such as insects and mollusks. Their reliance on healthy wetland habitats makes them sensitive to water pollution and habitat degradation, highlighting the importance of wetland conservation for their continued survival.
